Tauranga to Rotorua

Rotorua is one place where the turbulent forces that formed New Zealand are most evident. This city, on the Volcanic Plateau, has one of the world’s most lively fields of geothermal activity and sits squarely on the Pacific Rim of Fire.

Rotorua is also the ancestral home of the Te Arawa  people who settled here more than 600 years ago and their presence offers the visitor numerous cultural experiences.
We're getting very much out of our days thanks to jet lag. Today started at 02.00!! Waiting for the pool to open at 7.30 seems like forever. We're lucky to have Skype and family and friend in Sweden who wanted to chat. Eventually the pool opened and we could cool down before having an early lunch and then the short drive to Rotorua. We started to visit the great Rainbow Spring which the kids loved. Then up the Gondola were we could enjoy a spectacular view thanks to the clear weather. We had lunch up there and then Pernilla took the kids for a few rides on the luge before taking Gondola back down to our car. Right next to where we live is a park with lots of Thermal activity which the boys found very fascinating even if the smell is awful. Best of all was when we found out that our favourite restaurant Lone Star has right next to where we're staying. Had the best SirLoin and Lamb in a very long time. And the Corona was the perfect drink after such a hot day.
We manage to keep the kids away until just before 8 and are now hoping for a normal night sleep.
